Labs Tower | Canteen & Gym, Nicosia, 2022.

Labs Tower Nicosia is a mixed-use 22 floor tall building. It accommodates several commercial floors consisting of offices, a canteen, a small gym, and two restaurants, alongside six floors of residential apartments. The fourth floor of the tower is a double height floor in which the tower’s canteen and gym are located. The floor was commenced and designed for the wellbeing of the tower’s residents and offices' employees.

The main design stream was the positioning of a long floor-to-ceiling wall, that will stretch across the entire floor, and will coherently divide the floor into its two distinct functions. The notion was to form a vividly aesthetic facade that will accommodate a variety of unique applications - an open kitchen, a seating tribune, a library, open and closed storage, infrastructures, personal lockers, and a drinking fountain.

The chosen materials and color palette are part of a broader visual language, carefully formalized for the building as a whole; Natural and timeless materials that range on a warm and mellow spectrum, and elongated textures to emphasize shapes and proportions of selected elements. Altogether, these serve as the backdrop for soft furniture and accessories, specifically hand-picked for this floor. Natural oak veneer was chosen to cover the broad wall’s carpentry, silver veined Travertine stone was selected to accentuate the entrances to the floor and its lavatories. The same stone was also embedded in the wooden shelving sections of the wall in different areas; as an object library, a seating tribune, a gym accessory, the drinking fountain and the canteen’s open kitchen. The flooring is made of natural hand made Terrazzo tiles in light-gray. All furniture resonates with the visual language, with natural materials such as rattan, linen, marble, and brass. Lastly, the decorative lighting consisted of both pendant and wall-fixed instances that were all hand made by the lighting designer Naama Hoffman.
